Each year, Adult Education Day at the Indiana Statehouse gives us something truly special: the opportunity to come together as a community to educate, celebrate, and advocate for adult education across our state. This day matters—not just for what we do, but for what it represents.
Adult education in Indiana changes lives every single day. From helping adults earn their high school equivalency, to building English language skills, to supporting workforce readiness and family stability—our work strengthens individuals, communities, and Indiana’s future. Adult Education Day is our chance to make sure that story is heard clearly and proudly.
This year, we are especially excited to celebrate our Workforce Education Initiative (WEI) partners across the state. These partnerships exemplify what is possible when education, workforce, and community organizations come together with a shared goal. Your commitment and collaboration are helping learners move forward—and we are honored to recognize that impact.
We will also be celebrating our Adult Education Day essay winners, whose voices remind us exactly why this work matters. Their stories are empowering, transformative, collaborative, innovative, impactful, and truly exceptional—reflecting not only personal perseverance, but the strength of Indiana’s adult education community working together to create opportunity. These moments of recognition are among my favorites, because they put the heart of adult education front and center.

At 1:00 PM, you’re invited to participate in a Statehouse walking tour, a great way to deepen your understanding of Indiana’s legislative space and history. There are Directors and PDF meeting at the Indiana Government South Building at this time as well.
